In the comforting confines of Reeves addition on the northside of Muskogee, Alfred Jasper and Roxie [Edwards] Roberts were blessed with a baby girl on July 11, 1935. They named their new bundle of joy Alberta Lee Roberts. Alberta, the Matriarch of the family had several nicknames: Lee Lee, Queen Bea, Nana, Gammy, Nanaw, Mamaa and Mother.

Alberta was baptized at the age of 6 at the Bethel A.M.E. Church in Muskogee. She attended Langston Elementary School and ultimately graduated from Historic Manual Training High School with the prestigious class of 1954. While in school, she noticed a handsome young man and told her best friend, Jayne, "that one is mine!" After they got each other's attention, they couldn't resist each other and were united in holy matrimony on September 21, 1955. Their love was blessed with six children. Alberta was a believer in Jesus Christ. She became a member of St. Mark Baptist Church over 65 years ago on July 20, 1958 under the late Reverend Theodore Hickerson.

Following her graduation from Manual, Alberta entered the LPN Program at the Vo-Tech. She became an L..P. N. and worked for Muskogee Regional Hospital for 34 years from 1961 until her retirement in 1993. After her retirement, she worked for Indian Capitol Area Vo Tech as a Nurse Aide Instructor, then worked for Toni Terrill Home Health Agency. She also worked parttime as a receptionist for the Keith D. Biglow Funeral Directors, Inc.

Mrs. Walker served the Lord faithfully in many capacities. She remained faithful and committed as a wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother, while supporting her family emotionally and financially. Alberta sang with the Mass Choir, was chair of the Mission Action Circle of the WMU, Leader of Mission and Action, Chair of the St. Mark Baptist Decorating committee, anniversary Committee Chair, Mothers Ministry, Angel's of Mercy Nurses Ministry, Pastor's Aid, church clerk, and Nurses Guild. Additionally, she assisted with Communion and Baptisms, where she faithfully fulfilled her duties with Holy boldness and spiritual enthusiasm.

Mrs. Walker was involved in civic functions as well. She was a member of the United Manual Training Restoration Foundation, Social Savings Club and the Heroines of Jericho. She received a plaque for "Community Leader of the Year" in recognition of her hard work and dedication to the Reeves Addition Round-Up from the Bates family in 1999.

Alberta enjoyed spending time with her family and made it clear to her family that she expected everyone to celebrate thanksgiving at their home in Muskogee. She did most of the cooking for many years and served as many as 40 family dinners. As the family continued to grow, she reserved the Martin Luther King Center in Muskogee so that she could continue to host Thanksgiving family dinner.

When their health started to decline, Jerry and Alberta moved to Oklahoma City with their daughter and son in law, Iris and Sean Halll They developed relationships with members of the Peoples Church and the Eye to Eye Sweetheart Ball, where they were honored for their commitment of 68 years of marriage, picnics, marriage retreat and became an example to other marriages.

After 88 years, 7 months and 10 days, Alberta Lee Walker received her rest on Wednesday, February 21, 2024 from Oklahoma City, with her loving family near her side. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry "Wolf" Walker; her parents, Alfred and Roxie [Edwards] Roberts; her children, Jerry Keith and Byron Kelly Walker, three brothers, Alvin, Alfred and Timothy; four sisters, Pearlene, Hazel, Irene and Barbara "Tot"; and three siblings that died at an early age,

Deaconess Walker leaves in God's care to lament her death; her children, Sharel [Michael] Hughes, Broken Arrow, Iris [Sean] Hall, Oklahoma City, Vita Walker, Waverly, Georgia and Jerry [JoLynda] Walker, Jr., Yukon, Oklahoma; her brother, Leonard [Anita] Roberts, Oklahoma City; her life-long friend, Jayne Hall, Langston, Oklahoma; her grandchildren, Shanda [Keith] Biglow, Jerome [Ashley] Porter, Dedric Porter, Desiree [Chris] Flores, Anita [Ariyah] Israel, Courtney Walker, Alberta "Allie" Walker, Ciara Walker, Robyn Hennigh, Nicolas Hennigh and Xander Hennigh;13 great-grandchildren; a new great-granddaughter due any day; 2 great-great grandchildren; and a new great-great grandson due in March; along with a caravan of other relatives and friends.

The Hour of Remembrance for Mrs. Walker will commence at One hour into the Afternoon, on Friday, the 1st day of March, in the year of Our Lord, Two Thousand, Twenty-Four. Reverend Leroy Walker, Sr., Pastor of Rayfield Baptist Church, will Preside.

The Christian Committal will follow the service in the Booker T. Washington Cemetery in Muskogee.
