What to Know

Critics Consensus

Funny, self-referential, and irreverent to a fault, The Wolf of Wall Street finds Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio at their most infectiously dynamic.

The Wolf of Wall Street (2013) | Rotten Tomatoes (1) Wendy Ide Times (UK) ... A sprawling riot of bad taste and consumption — and tremendously entertaining if you’re in the right mood. Nov 23, 2022 Full Review The Wolf of Wall Street (2013) | Rotten Tomatoes (2) Larushka Ivan-Zadeh metro.co.uk The film has roused censure for glorifying crime, with scant, awkwardly realised minutes paid to Belfort's eventual comeuppance. But surely 71-year-old Scorsese, a one-time wannabe priest whose work is preoccupied with morality, did that deliberately? Rated: 4/5 Sep 6, 2017 Full Review The Wolf of Wall Street (2013) | Rotten Tomatoes (3) Jason Bailey Flavorwire Scorsese is fascinated by procedure, by drawing back the curtain and showing us how things happen, though he keeps the picture nimble and entertaining enough to avoid burying himself in the minutiae. Jun 18, 2016 Full Review The Wolf of Wall Street (2013) | Rotten Tomatoes (4) Noah Gittell Washington City Paper It continues to provoke and entertain... Oct 12, 2023 Full Review The Wolf of Wall Street (2013) | Rotten Tomatoes (5) Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review Scorsese depicts an intriguing and marvelously loathsome human beast in its natural setting, where the verdict on its judgment lies in the hands of its audience. Rated: 4/4 Aug 19, 2022 Full Review The Wolf of Wall Street (2013) | Rotten Tomatoes (6) Don Shanahan Every Movie Has a Lesson "The Wolf of Wall Street" doesn't want to be lovable. It just wants to remind you how excessive wealth can get and catch you being entertained by it. You can't target excessiveness to hate without being excessive in its depiction. Douglas C This is a must watch. Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/23/24 Full Review christian b Very entertaining movie. Leo and Margot Robbie played their roles perfectly Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/23/24 Full Review JA S I understand that this movie is as much about Jordan Belfort as it is satire, but its just not done well. This movie seems more interested in how much the characters can drop the "F" Word than it does in telling a coherent story. Sad, because the actual story seems like it might have been interesting. Instead we get Jonah Hill, with ridiculous teeth yelling and cursing for the entire film. A completely wasted opportunity and a miss for Scorese. Rated 1/5 Stars • Rated 1 out of 5 stars 06/22/24 Full Review Grant H This film might be based on a true story but Scorsese has crossed that fine line between what is necessary to accurately reflect the tale and what becomes an excuse for excess. You'll feel in need of a good shower after watching it. Rated 1/5 Stars • Rated 1 out of 5 stars 06/22/24 Full Review Molly Amazing acting. Margot was what made the film feel existing and entertaining. Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/22/24 Full Review Delanie S Very interesting on rewatch. A good movie.
