Testing, Testing: An Editor’s Review of Skin Laundry’s Laser Facials (2024)

I get it, laser treatments like Clear + Brilliant, Halo, and Fraxel can be daunting. They’re expensive, uncomfortable, associated with downtime, and often only provided at a dermatologist’s office or select med spas. But what if I told you there was a way to get a laser treatment that helped improve your skin tone and texture but without all the negatives? Well there is, and it’s thanks to Skin Laundry. The chain of skin studios specializes in relatively affordable and effective laser facials that can be helpful for treating things like acne, clogged pores, dark spots, fine lines, melasma, and more. Basically, skin Laundry is doing for lasers what Drybar did for blowouts—making them accessible for the masses and a part of regular people’s everyday beauty routines, myself included.

Keep reading for a full rundown on Skin Laundry lasers, how long they take to work, and my first-person review of the OG Skin Laundry Signature Laser Facial and the just-debuted Skin Laundry Sculpting Facial.

Do Skin Laundry lasers work?

Yes! Skin Laundry lasers definitely work. Of course (like most laser treatments), you won’t see life-changing results from just one session, but if you commit to a series of treatments you can expect brighter, clearer, and smoother skin. Currently, Skin Laundry has a few different lasers to choose from, including the Signature Laser Facial, Resurfacing Facial, Power Signature Facial, and Power Duo Facial. These lasers each have different functions and provide different results (you can read the full breakdown here), including clarifying, brightening, resurfacing, and even firming. So if you’re dealing with skin issues like acne, hyperpigmentation, or signs of aging, a Skin Laundry laser facial will likely work for you. Also great? Unlike many other lasers, Skin Laundry’s treatments are safe for the majority of skin tones too.

While Skin Laundry calls their treatments “laser facials,” they’re really not facials at all, so don’t expect anything like extractions, facial massage, or masking during a treatment. IMO, Skin Laundry lasers are facial-like in the sense that the treatments are pretty relaxing, result in little to no downtime, and are performed in a chill, spa-like setting instead of a doctor’s office or clinic.

How long does it take to see results from Skin Laundry?

Skin Laundry lasers aren’t one-and-done treatments, meaning you’ll likely need a series of three to six treatments spaced a few weeks apart to see results—plus the occasional follow-up treatment to maintain those results. Ultimately, to see visible results from Skin Laundry you need to be both consistent and committed to your treatments, which is why the brand offers membership-style pricing ranging from $175 a month to $375 a month.

And while we’re talking about results, the skincare products you use at home are critical for getting the best outcome from your treatments. The most important of those products being sunscreen. Lasers make skin more sensitive to UV rays, so protecting your skin post-treatment is essential—not to mention that whatever signs of aging you’re trying to correct with Skin Laundry were likely caused by UV exposure in the first place.

How often should I do Skin Laundry?

How often you should do a Skin Laundry treatment really depends on your skin concerns and the laser treatment you’re getting to address those concerns. The Signature Laser Facial is gentle, so it can be done every two weeks. More intense options, like the Power Duo Facial, will be done less frequently. Your Skin Laundry provider will be able to come up with a game plan that’s best for you and your skin goals.

    Does Skin Laundry cause purging?

While I’ve never personally experienced purging from a Skin Laundry laser, it can happen. Purging (breakouts immediately following a skin treatment) tend to happen after resurfacing treatments, like lasers and peels, because there’s an increase in cell turnover that pushes everything in your pores to the surface. With purging, these are breakouts that were going to happen anyway—the laser just expedites the process—so if you experience purging post-laser, it may be annoying but not something to worry about.

    My Skin Laundry experience:

Testing, Testing: An Editor’s Review of Skin Laundry’s Laser Facials (4)

I’ve been a fan of Skin Laundry’s Signature Laser Facial for years now. It’s the OG Skin Laundry treatment and loved by editors and influencers for its ability to stimulate collagen production, correct uneven pigment, and zap acne causing bacteria and buildup in pores. I did a series of six about a year ago when I was dealing with a super stubborn bout of hormonal acne, and I saw a huge improvement. Post treatments, my pores were smaller, my skin was less oily, and the dark marks from my old breakouts were less noticeable too. While the Signature Laser Facial didn’t completely stop me from breaking out, it did make the breakouts I had less severe, which was a major win for me.

I also love the convenience of this treatment. The whole thing—from the moment you check in until the moment you walk out the door—takes 15 minutes. There’s zero downtime (when I say zero, I really mean it—my skin always looks totally normal immediately after a Signature Laser Facial). Another element of convenience is that you can quickly book and/or reschedule online.

More recently, I tried Skin Laundry’s new Sculpting Facial, which is rolling out to all locations in 2025. You guys, I’m obsessssed with this treatment. It uses gentle radiofrequency to help smooth and tighten skin for a “snatched” look. I genuinely noticed a difference in my skin after just one treatment—my cheekbones looked more prominent and my jawline smoother and defined. Overall, my skin look supremely glowy too. I imagine this is how my face would look on a regular basis if I were actually consistent with my gua sha routine, but because I am simply the worst with at-home tools, this treatment is a great alternative for me. And in true Skin Laundry fashion, the Sculpting Facial doesn’t hurt or leave you with any downtime either.

The verdict: Is Skin Laundry worth it?

In my opinion, Skin Laundry is totally worth it. The lasers are accessible, safe for the majority of skin types and tones, and can effectively help treat an array of common skin issues when used in combination with a good at-home skincare routine. And with over 50 locations, chances are you probably live near a Skin Laundry...so why not go ahead a book a treatment already? The first one only costs $50.
